In short

LedgerWise AI is a Sydney-based AI automation consultancy working exclusively with Australian accounting firms. Our founding team combines over 15 years across boutique and mid-tier practices with technology strategy and AI application development. We build automation into the way your firm already works, and we keep a qualified human in the loop.

Why we started this

Anyone who has worked in an Australian practice knows where the time goes. Not to the technical work — to typing figures from a PDF into a workpaper, to chasing the same six documents from the same clients every July, to re-keying a client's details into a third system because two of them do not talk.

Meanwhile the AI tools being sold into the profession were mostly generic: impressive in a demo, unaware that a BAS quarter exists, and asking firms to move their work into somebody else's portal.

We started LedgerWise AI to do the opposite. Start with how the practice actually runs. Build the automation into that.

What makes us different

We are accountants as well as AI builders. Our founding team has spent over 15 years across boutique and mid-tier accounting firms, technology strategy, and AI model and application development. We know what a workpaper has to look like before a partner will sign it, and we know why the reviewer is the constraint rather than the preparer.

We build around your existing tools. Xero, MYOB, XPM, MYOB AE, APS, Karbon, FYI, SharePoint, Class, BGL — whatever combination your practice runs. There is no need to replace systems or change how your team works. Replacing a ledger is a far bigger project than the automation, and it is almost never what is costing you time.

Human judgement stays at the centre. Every automation we build has a person reviewing before anything reaches a client. That is partly professional obligation and partly hard experience: automation that reviewers cannot verify does not get used, no matter how accurate it is.

We will tell you when not to automate. Below roughly 15 staff, or where a workflow runs a few dozen times a year, off-the-shelf tools will beat a custom build on economics. We would rather say that on the first call than three weeks into an engagement.

How we think about the Code

We work with registered tax agents and BAS agents, so the professional framework is not an afterthought. TPB(GS) 55/2026 confirmed what the profession already suspected: using an AI tool does not reduce, share or transfer your professional responsibility. You remain fully accountable for every service you provide.

That shapes the engineering. Automations record which steps were AI-assisted and under what policy. Outputs carry provenance back to source documents. Nothing goes to a client unreviewed. And tax file numbers stay out of general-purpose AI tools entirely.

We write about this in public because the profession needed someone to. Our insights library covers the TPB guidance, what you can and cannot put into ChatGPT, and a free AI use policy template you are welcome to take and adapt whether or not you ever speak to us.

Who we work with

Australian accounting firms, primarily in the 15-to-60 staff range running modern cloud stacks, though we work with practices of all sizes. Based in Sydney, working with firms across Australia — most engagements run remotely, and we are happy to be on-site with Sydney practices.

How to start

A free 30-minute consultation. We get to know your practice and help you work out whether automation is worth pursuing at all. You will leave with a clear view of where the time is going, whether or not you work with us. If it makes sense to go further, the next step is a fixed-scope automation audit.
